Camillus Health's mission is to provide Christian hospitality and respect for life through direct services of health care, outreach, counseling and case management to the poor and homeless of South Florida.
A History of Quality Care
Operating as a ministry of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd, Camillus Health delivered its first health care services in 1984, when a group of volunteer doctors began to provide basic services to clients eating dinner at the Camillus House soup kitchen. Since then, Camillus Health has grown into a sophisticated, professional community health center operating at four locations in Miami-Dade County.
Camillus Health has been a Healthcare for the Homeless 330(h) grantee through the Bureau of Primary Health Care since 1989 and was designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 1996. In 2012, Camillus Health was recognized as a Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home, which is the highest ranking offered by the National Center for Quality Assurance. Today, Camillus Health provides an array of healthcare services for uninsured, underserved, and homeless individuals and families. Last year, we provided 28,000 medical visits to nearly 4,000 patients.
Camillus Health provides a comprehensive and multidisciplinary range of primary, preventive and supplemental health services for all patients. Services include adult and pediatric primary medical care, women's health services, oral health, behavioral health, podiatry, dermatology, health education, transportation, and case management services. We offer these services at our state-of-the art main site in downtown Miami, and we operate primary care satellite sites at the Salvation Army, Better Way of Miami, and Camillus House homeless service organizations. We also provide street-and shelter-based medical outreach in our mobile medical van. Our providers establish a partnership with each patient to develop a treatment care plan, which addresses not only health care needs, but also needed services like referrals for housing and employment. We provide health care within the context of our patient’s entire spectrum of needs, including services focused on rebuilding their lives
